Abby Bebel, an amazing swimmer, announced her commitment to Lafayette College through Instagram on Friday.

Bebel completed her junior season with 3 first-place finishes, 4 second-place finishes and 1 third-place finish in the 100 butterfly. For her second main stroke, freestyle, she finished with 5 total first places between the 50, 100 and 500 races. After her senior season swimming for the high school, Bebel will swim for the Westfield YMCA to prepare for her freshman season at Lafayette.

Bebel will join the Leopards in the fall of 2023. Last season, Lafayette finished 10th at the Patriot League Championships. Lafayette is one of 13 women’s teams in the Patriot League. The Leopards will add Bebel to their roster as a key swimmer to encourage a winning mentality.

What caught Bebel’s eye was Lafayette’s amazing coaching staff, great team atmosphere and excellent academics. “Lafayette will allow me to swim at a Division I level in a great conference while being able to study engineering,” she said.

Bebel has won countless titles during her career with the Blue Devils, including a Public A state championship last season. The 200 medley relay team she was part of last season holds the all-time Westfield girls swimming record, was named All-American, and placed second at the Meet of Champions. Her 200 freestyle relay team was also named third-team All-State.

Bebel joined teammates Clare Logan, Emily Constable and Lauren Lane as Westfield girls swimmers committed to Division I schools.

Bebel will look to continue her incredible legacy through her senior season, which begins next Thursday, and improve her skills to prepare for Lafayette.
