Clare Logan, a standout swimmer, announced her commitment to Duke University via Instagram on Wednesday.

Logan’s main strokes are freestyle and backstroke, and her skill has been evident in many high-level meets.

Logan competed in the Olympic trials and said she believed it was one of the best experiences she has had in her swim career. “I got to compete against the best swimmers and perform at one of the highest levels possible,” she said. “Because of COVID there were two waves of the trials and I competed in wave one. I swam the 50 freestyle and made it back for the B final and ended up placing 13th.” Though she wasn’t thrilled with her performance, she believes that it was an impactful learning experience that she knows she will never forget.

Logan was recruited through club swimming and recently switched teams. She currently swims for the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. Although Logan began high school as a multi-sport athlete, she retired from basketball prior to her sophomore year to pursue swimming.

Logan will be joining Duke in the fall of 2024. This past season, the women’s team finished with a regular-season record of 8-3. Duke is located in Durham, North Carolina, and is a founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Blue Devils will add a highly skilled swimmer that could boost an already talented program.

Logan also considered UVA, UNC and Notre Dame, but she ultimately decided on Duke. She said, “On my visit to Duke I really connected with the swimmers and coaches which made my decision a lot easier. I also loved the campus and was able to see myself being really successful in both swimming and school with all the support Duke has to offer.”

What really put Duke over the top for Logan was the good balance of athletics and academics. The mixture of all these factors is what makes Duke the perfect fit for Logan.

Last year, Logan broke the NJ state record in the 100 backstroke, won the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle at the Meet of Champions, and was named First-Team All-State in the 100 backstroke. She was also a 2022 NISCA High School All-American in the 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 200 medley relay.

Though Logan has only two seasons left with Westfield, she will remain a Blue Devil as she progresses into college and will look to continue Duke’s winning culture.
