On Nov. 29, 2023 senior sprinter Gabby Demeter announced her commitment to Davidson College’s track and field team.
Demeter is the third member of her class to announce her commitment.
Davidson is a private liberal arts college founded in 1837 located in North Carolina with an undergraduate enrollment of 1,927 students in 2022. Davidson competes in the Atlantic 10 conference at the Division I level.
When looking to run in college Demeter had interest from Bucknell and Colgate but ultimately decided on Davidson because of the team and what they offered academically. “I chose [Davidson] because I loved the campus and the team. The campus is small and it really felt like home. I also was looking for a good academic institution. On top of that, I really enjoyed the warm weather in North Carolina.”
Demeter added that Davidson offered research opportunities for her major, making Davidson the perfect academic school that allowed her to continue an impressive track and field career.
Demeter has been a standout sprinter for the Blue Devils in both the winter and spring seasons throughout her high school career. Not only has Demeter broken one minute in the 400 meter event but she is a member of the record-breaking 4×100-meter relay team, which currently holds the school record with a time of 49.69 seconds. While, Demeter is a talented sprinter she also competes in jumping events helping the Blue Devils in every meet.
Fellow senior Maura Hyland, a member of the record setting 4×100-meter relay team, constantly sees Demeter’s hard work. “Gabby has a strong work ethic that is demonstrated through her leadership both in practice and at meets,” said Hyland. “Her hard work pays off which is shown in her many school records. Being a part of relays with Gabby has shown what great a runner and teammate she is. With this, I know she’ll be successful with her track career at Davidson.”
While Demeter has already committed to her college of choice, she still has the winter and spring track seasons ahead of her. Demeter is sure to deliver even more records this year before she begins a surely impressive stint at Davidson.
