On Nov. 5, senior football player Peter Del Re announced his commitment to Union College.

Union College, located in Schenectady, NY offers Division lll athletics and competes in the Liberty League. According to unionatheltics.com since their first season in 1886 the team has taken two trips to the national championship game, has had 10 undefeated regular seasons and 13 NCAA Tournament appearances. Union football is recognized on a regional and national scale as one of the top teams DIII in the country. This 2023 season, the team went 10-2 overall

Del Re is a wide receiver for the varsity football team. Last season, his junior year, he led his team in receptions. Del Re has had many achievements in his career at WHS, but one of his most significant was “making varsity my sophomore year and starting.”

Del Re knew he wanted to continue his football career into college after his sophomore year. Since that was his first time playing for a varsity team he “saw a big difference being a part of that kind of team and I realized that’s why I wanted to play in college.”

When choosing where to continue his athletic career, academics played a large role in his final decision. According to Del Re, he mainly chose Union College because “they had a really good engineering program.” This is a program other schools that gave him offers did not possess. “I wanted engineering to be my major and future career and UC was the best place for that,” he said.

During Del Re’s football career and life, he has a great support system made up of friends and family. “How much you put into it, will be how much you get out of it.” This is something Del Re’s father, Frank, tells him to keep him motivated during his game.

Del Re is extremely excited to continue his athletic and academic career at UC. His family hopes to see him “be a leader and influence to everyone on the team. And most importantly, stay healthy.”
