On Oct. 30, senior sprinter Darcy Scheiner committed to American University’s Track and Field team. Scheiner is a sprinter, specializing in many events notably the 55-meter, 100-meter and 200-meter events on the Blue Devils track team.

Scheiner is coming off of a very successful junior season for the Blue Devils in which she set multiple school relay records and placed top three all time in school history in the indoor 55m,200m,400-meter events as well as the outdoor 100m and 200m events.

American University is a private university located in Washington D.C. and competes at the Division I level in the Patriot League. Some of the other schools Scheiner was considering were Columbia University, Bucknell University and George Washington University but ultimately Scheiner committed to American because of the sense of community, citing that she “really liked the people on the team and the coaching staff.” Regarding the location of the school, Scheiner also noted, “I love D.C. and how American has its own campus but is still so close to the city.” Additionally, American specializes in political science and international relations, something that Scheiner plans on majoring in during college.

Sean O’Brien, another senior sprinter, holds Scheiner in high praise, describing her as a “great teammate to train with during the season” and someone who “pushes other athletes to be the best.” Scheiner’s college career will certainly hold the same success and prestige as her illustrious Westfield career, but in the short term, Scheiner describes the indoor sectional final trophy as the next goal in her high school career.

The winning culture and very large trophy case of the Westfield XCTF program is in good hands this year and Scheiner wants everyone to be on to be on the lookout for new hardware heading to WHS in the very near future.
