The summer of 2022 marked a busy time for many WHS athletes as they made their college commitment decisions. After months of communicating with coaches and going on visits, several athletes verbally committed to their number one school.

Barnes Blake’s commitment was the earliest of the summer as he decided to attend Georgetown University to continue his golf career at the Division I level. The senior golfer picked a school residing in Washington, D.C., and announced his decision via Instagram on July 7.  Georgetown belongs to the Big East Conference. When asked about his decision, Blake said, “I really like the coach and how he runs the team. I also really liked the campus and how the undergraduate business school is highly ranked.”

Following Blake, senior soccer player and captain Emma Kelesoglu announced she will be attending Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, at the Division III level. Hamilton belongs to the NESCAC conference. Kelesoglu announced her decision via Instagram on July 23. Kelesoglu was interested in a small, academically competitive school as her other options were Williams and Connecticut College. When she first visited Hamilton, Kelesoglu said,  “I was drawn in by how beautiful the campus is and immediately knew the coaching staff had serious interest in me from the start.”

Annie Ryan made the final commitment of the summer. She decided to continue her basketball career at Tufts University at the Division III level. Tufts, where Ryan’s cousin and sister both played basketball, is located in Boston, MA, and is in the NESCAC conference. Ryan also announced her decision to Instagram on August 17. “I loved the campus and knew it was very close to Boston,” Ryan said. “The school is great academically and also has a very good basketball program.”

These three commitments kept the summer interesting as the school year marks the main season for athletes to make their big decisions.
