On Friday, Jan. 19, senior Max Romano announced his commitment to play Division I football at Wagner College.
Romano was a key player on offense and defense for the Blue Devils this season. As both an offensive and defensive lineman, Romano notched eight sacks in his senior season, all while providing great blocking for the rushing and passing game.
Wagner College, a small liberal arts school founded in 1883 located in Staten Island, New York, is a Division I school that plays in the Northeast Conference. Last season, the Seahawks finished with a record of 4-7 and 3-4 in conference games. Teams in the NEC include Duquesne, Merrimack, and Central Connecticut. Sacred Heart University is also in the Northeast conference, which was another school that actively recruited Romano for his talents. However, Wagner stuck out to him.
″Wagner felt like home. I like what [the team] is building, I really like the class they have coming in, so I wanted to be a part of that,″ Romano said. ″It is also really close to home. The coaching staff was a huge part of [my decision], when I visited there, I just had a feeling.″
Romano certainly left an impression in his three years on the varsity team at WHS. Senior running back Josh Caramagno said, ″It’s always great playing with Rom. He brings tons of energy every day and shows how much he cares about us with how he plays. I’m definitely going to miss running behind 73.″
Along with his teammates Romano will always remember playing specific games as well. Among those games were the ″senior year Scotch Plains game and the senior year Hillsborough game. Scotch Plains game because everyone was there, and I just love both of those games,″ Romano said.
Romano will continue his academic career in the renowned business school at Wagner, specifically studying business marketing.
