Danny McGann, along with the rest of the class of 2024’s committed athletes, signed his letter of intent to play lacrosse at Denison University on Nov. 14. His commitment was originally announced Sept. 18 via Instagram.

McGann is currently a dual-sport athlete, playing lacrosse in the spring and swimming in the winter. “I am the captain of the swim team, and I have swam for four years in high school. I also ran cross country for my freshman and sophomore years,” McGann said. Swimming for all four years of his high school career, he has assisted the team in taking home the North 2, Public A sectional titles his sophomore and junior years and a Public A state championship title his junior year. McGann and the boys lacrosse team made it to the North 2, Group 4 finals last year and the semifinals the year prior.

McGann’s teammate and friend, Michael Marshall, describes him as a “work horse” who’s “always looking to improve on parts of his game he is not happy with.” Marshall also comments on McGann’s ability to improve the team as well as himself. “He’s always out on the field before practice taking shots, and he loves to stay after practice too for extra reps. Dan Mcgann is a great guy to have in the locker room too, he gives criticism and can be criticized without complaining which is an important attribute an athlete should have,” says Marshall.

Denison University is located in Granville, Ohio. “I committed to Denison due to their excellent balance between academics and athletics,” McGann says. “The school is beautiful, and the coaching staff is awesome.” Denison, a private liberal arts college, has an undergraduate enrollment of roughly 2,300 students. With a 9:1 student-to-faculty ratio, there is a personable and supportive academic environment for all students.

Last year, Denison’s men’s lacrosse team finished 17-4 with a 7-1 in-conference record. They are a part of NCAA Division III and the North Coast Athletic Conference. They also won the NCAC championship in 2023, and they made it to the third round of the NCAA tournament.

With one more spring lacrosse season before joining his new team at Denison, McGann will look to lead his team to a winning season and hopefully some hardware.
