Lucy Mineo, an aggressive midfielder for the girls lacrosse team, announced her commitment to Marquette University via Instagram on Monday.

Mineo made the varsity lacrosse team her freshman year and quickly made a name for herself. She scored 10 goals during her sophomore season. Mineo is also a member of the Building Blocks Lacrosse program, the club where she received most of her attention from colleges. Although Mineo is a multi-sport athlete, she is bred from a lacrosse family as both her siblings play Division I lacrosse.

Mineo will be joining the Eagles in the fall of 2024. This past season they went 7-9 overall and 4-6 in the Big East. Marquette is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and became a Division I women’s lacrosse program in 2013. The Eagles will add a force in the midfield with Mineo that could boost this newly transformed program to the top.

Clemson, Bucknell, and James Madison University were other schools that Mineo considered, because she was mainly looking at southern and midwestern schools. “I wanted to go far,” Mineo said.

What really put Marquette over the top for Mineo was the atmosphere. “The coaches, facilities, and the culture of the team is great,” she said. “They look like they have so much fun together and deciding between that and other schools was easy.” Ultimately, the mixture of all these factors is what makes Marquette the perfect fit for Mineo.

Mineo still has two seasons left with the Blue Devils before she transforms into an Eagle. She will look to reignite the program’s winning culture. Mineo was a member of the sectional championship team her freshman year, and it is clear Mineo and the rest of the girls lacrosse team are committed to making another long run in the tournament.
