Ace pitcher Tomas Cestero announced his commitment to Seton Hall University on Monday via an emphatic video on Instagram.

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing close to 190 pounds, Cestero has the perfect build for a pitcher. He is able to use his height and weight effectively to throw his fastball in the upper 80s, and his offspeed pitches are some of his best stuff as well. This helped Cestero to have an excellent sophomore year, throwing 38 strikeouts in 20.2 innings pitched. He was also invited to and played in the Garden State Games, a game for the top underclassmen in the area.

Owen Callahan, the Westfield catcher who recently committed to Ithaca College, had high praise for Cestero. He said, “I love catching Tomas. He has an excellent change-up and I am glad I am able to catch him in club and in high school.” Callahan also said, “He is a fierce competitor who wants the high-pressure situations and wants to face every guy he can. He never ducks from a challenging hitter or situation and is never someone who you question whether or not they can get it done in the clutch.”

Cestero will be joining a Pirates team that went 18-35 last year and 7-13 in the Big East. They will look to improve in the fall of ‘24 with Cestero and future commits.

When it came down to deciding the school, Cestero knew the Pirates were the right fit. “I really loved the coaching staff. They were very good communicators and made me feel like I was a part of their program even before I committed,” he said. “I enjoyed talking to some of the current players about their experiences with some of the new coaching staff, and I heard nothing but excitement in the years to come.”

Cestero made it clear that while he still has time in high school, he plans on winning both county and state championships for the Blue Devils. He also wants to enjoy every second he has left with his friends and continue to play the game he loves with his friends.
