Owen Callahan, a senior catcher on the Westfield baseball team, announced his commitment to Ithaca College on Thursday via Instagram.

Callahan has been a member of the baseball team since his freshman year and has been the starting catcher since his junior year. Callahan in his junior year led all Blue Devils in RBI’s with 18 and in the second half of the season batted close to .380. In his sophomore year, Callahan was selected to play in the underclassmen all-star game.

In the high school offseason, Callahan spends his time in Staten Island playing for Richmond County Baseball. With his club team, Callahan won two tournaments this summer, one of which was the PG Northeast qualifier.

Callahan will bring his talents next fall to an Ithaca team which finished 34-14 last season and won the Liberty League tournament. They will be looking to continue their success, and Callahan will hope to propel the team’s success as well.

When it came down to deciding on college, Callahan said, “I was weighing options between Division I and Division III, but when it came down to it, based on playing time and finances, Division III made more sense.”

Before heading to Ithaca next fall, Callahan will have one more season for the Blue Devils, where he not only hopes to win a county championship, but also a state championship.
