Since Sept. 15, the Westfield gymnastics team has competed in five meets. They have won all of their dual meets, and placed third in an in-season tournament against multiple different schools, behind Scotch Plains-Fanwood and Hillsborough. The past few seasons the team has proven to be one of the strongest teams in the county, and this year they are proving nothing different.

Senior Co-Captains Brooke Williams, Jessica D’Agosta, Ally Pacifico look to lead the team through the rest of the season. Head Coach Jenna Zito said, “[The seniors] all bring valuable experience to our team. They lead by example and are the main reason why our team is extremely close knit.”

Last year, the team finished with seven wins and only two losses in dual meets, including a key win against Scotch Plains-Fanwood during the season. They placed second in last year’s Union County Tournament and had two gymnasts compete in the NJSIAA Individual Championship. Tournament time will be here soon and Williams said, “We haven’t seen a county win in the last few years and I’m hoping we can continue to work hard as the season goes on and finally get that win this year.”

The support on the team and the bonds formed are helping the girls through the season and are a reason  for their success thus far. D’Agosta said, “Having a strong bond makes the meets and wins so much better.”

Their next meet isn’t until Sept. 29, where they will compete against rival Scotch Plains-Fanwood, who also has a perfect record this season. This will be an intense competition between two of the county’s strongest teams. Williams said, “I’m using our wins as momentum and reminders for the team that we have a chance against every team we face.”

The girls aim to keep the streak alive throughout the rest of the season and into the Union County and state tournaments.
