Coming off of a tough loss to SPF, the Blue Devils were ready to turn their season around especially with it being senior day. As they built on the momentum of the lead and energy from the crowd they executed well on the court resulting in a decisive win two sets to one.

From the first set Westfield came out with intensity, their communication was sharper and their energy was consistent throughout the game. They ended the first set quickly with a 25-16 win.

Head coach Edward Saggio emphasized a new mindset after the previous loss. “I told them they had to be more focussed and more serious after the loss to SPF,” Saggio said.

This game wasn’t just any other day but it was senior day and with eight seniors on the team this game was especially meaningful. “It was very special. There are eight of them, and they have been with me for a long time.” Saggio added. Saggio also highlighted Senior Jack Graham’s improved serving performance.

Senior tri-captain Ethan Cha played a key role offensively and spoke about the team’s mindset. “Today, we were just trying to play our own game and keep up the energy, because usually when we play lower teams, we try not to play down to their level, so that was our main focus today” Cha said. This win being on senior day made it even more special as he added, “It feels great. It’s always nice to get a win, especially on a day that’s supposed to be ours.”

Senior tri-captain Ben Bukiet-Beker also talked about recovering, especially on senior day. “We wanted to have fun but also bounce back from our loss against SPF. That was a tough one so this felt like a reset game for us,” he said.

With the momentum now on their side Bukiet-Beker believes the team is in a better position to move forward. “We are going into the next game with a win under our belt which is always better. Now we were in the right mindset to keep winning hopefully.” he said.

Saggio also had things to say on moving forward with the season. “We got a tough one tomorrow and they are a top 20 team so hopefully we’re motivated,” he said.

As the Blue Devils have a renewed sense of energy and motivation they are gearing up to play Randolph at home at 4:30 p.m.
