On July 22, via Instagram, senior Skylar Abo announced her “commitment to the admissions process” at Connecticut College, located in New London, CT.
Abo was first introduced to the sport at a young age, playing through the Westfield Recreation program in first grade and various other local programs, like Soft Toss, until she eventually started playing club lacrosse in fifth grade for STEPS Lacrosse, where she has played ever since.
“When I first started playing, I never imagined lacrosse being such a big part of my life, but as I got older, I became more serious and started putting more effort and time into improving,” she said.
Her dedication to the sport is evident, as senior and fellow tri-captain Kate Paris said, “She is amazing at uplifting others but also has that drive to get better each day, which rubs off on other people.”
Abo plays attack for the girls lacrosse team where her attitude and impact were especially felt on the field last season when she contributed 18 goals and 18 assists, marking her best season yet since making the team as a freshman. Girls lacrosse head coach Katie DaSilva said, “Skylar has grown so much since first making the team as a freshman, and she is ready to step into a bigger role in the attack for us next season.”
Additionally, Abo is also a part of history for the girls lacrosse program. In 2025, she and the team won the program’s first-ever Group IV state title, where she tallied a goal and an assist in the victory.
“Scoring in the final was really exciting, but what made it more special was knowing that it contributed to our team winning the championship,” Abo said.
Abo’s impact extends beyond the stat sheet, as her competitive nature and willingness to support her teammates have made her a leader on the team.
“[Abo] loves to compete but is also someone that a lot of the girls feel comfortable going to for advice,” said Paris.
Her commitment to academics and her love for competition is what drove her to her decision to commit to Connecticut College.
Abo said, “I wanted a school where I could challenge myself academically while continuing to play at a high level.”
The Camels started off last season strong with back-to-back wins out of conference but struggled to maintain that momentum within their conference.
Connecticut College competes in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, which is considered one of the most competitive Divison III conferences in the country. Just last year 3 of the 11 teams in the conference were nationally ranked throughout the season. While it will be a competitive and challenging environment to enter into, Abo is ready.
