On Apr. 15, senior basketball star Shane Sheehan announced his commitment to Catholic University of America basketball.

Sheehan, a two year starter on the varsity basketball team, was the centerpiece of the team. The big man averaged 13 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in his senior campaign, a successful season to say the least. Sheehan ended his season being recognized as first team all county.

Some of Sheehan’s biggest accomplishments throughout his high school career include: “First team all county recognition and the state semifinal run junior year”

Catholic University is a small Division III school located in Washington D.C. with just over 3,000 undergraduate students. Catholic not only has well respected academics, but also has consistently competitive athletics. The Cardinals compete in the Landmark Conference with teams such as Drew University and Susquehanna University.

Sheehan ultimately decided on Catholic University because he “really liked the coaches and the campus. [He] loved the way they ran their program and how successful they have been.”

The Cardinals had an impressive record of 25-4 in their 2023-24 season. They also won the Landmark Conference. Catholic University has dominated the Landmark conference for well over a decade and Sheehan believes that they will continue this tradition of excellence.

Sheehan also felt like Catholic was the right fit because he “talked with the coaches about where they see him fitting in and they explained that he will make an instant impact.” He added, “I am excited to prove myself at the next level next year and really have an influence on the team just like I was able to in Westfield.”

Junior point guard for the Blue Devils, Tyshawn Pearson, knows that Sheehan has got what it takes to succeed at the next level. Having co-captained with Sheehan in the Blue Devils past season, Pearson said: “Shane is a great teammate, one of the best bigs I have played with. He makes me and everyone else better when he’s on the court.” He added, “He shows his leadership on and off the court, always helping out his teammates and making sure we are all focused on what is ahead of us.”

Sheehan is excited to embark on his new hoops journey down in D.C., but looks forward to the end of his senior year. He is ready to get to work and make his mark on the court at Catholic.
