Last week, senior captain Ella Cadigan committed to La Salle University. Cadigan is a forward/midfielder on the currently undefeated Westfield soccer team.

Cadigan comes off of a successful junior season for the Blue Devils in which she secured first team all county and all conference selections. The soccer team was bounced in the North 2, Group 4 finals in penalty kicks but technically finished the season with an impressive record of 15-0-4. Cadigan finished the season with six goals and four assists and is off to a hot start again this year.

La Salle is a private, catholic university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and competes at the Division 1 level in the A10 conference. Some of the other schools that were in the mix were Wesleyan and Colby, but ultimately Cadigan committed to La Salle because of “the atmosphere of the school” and that the “coaches and players were very welcoming on [her] visit.”

High level soccer runs in the family as well. Both her brother, Patrick, and her sister, Emilie, play for the varsity soccer teams and her father played soccer at La Salle during his own career. La Salle women’s soccer finished last year’s season with an 8-8-2 record, and will surely put Cadigan’s excellent scoring ability to good use.

Kate Giglio, the other senior captain for the 2023-24 season, holds Cadigan in high praise, describing her as a “strong and serious leader” and someone who “motivates everyone” on the team. Cadigan’s college career will certainly hold the same success as her Westfield career, but for now, Cadigan lists her short-term goals as “win counties and the state section finals, after that get as far as possible.”

The long legacy of success in the Westfield Girls Soccer program doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon, especially with this current group headed by Cadigan.
