On Sept. 7, senior Peter Cabrales announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic career at Penn College of Technology via Instagram.
Cabrales first fell in love with baseball at a very young age. He started playing t-ball at around three years old and hasn’t put the bat down since. Since then, Cabrales has played for Westfield and his club team, Richmond County Baseball Club.
Cabrales has pitched for the WHS boys baseball team since his sophomore year when the team won the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 Championship. Last season he pitched 348 times and 17 strike-outs. “As a player, he’s multifaceted. He pitches, he plays the field and he hits for us, since his sophomore year. So, he has a lot of things that he does extremely well as a player,” head coach Jay Cook said.
Located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Penn College is a Division III program competing in the United East Conference. It is affiliated with The Pennsylvania State University and is about 63 miles south of the campus.
Cabrales selected Penn College Wildcats because of the positive environment he felt after his visit to the school. “The coaching staff made me feel very welcomed and the team felt very inviting. I also loved the campus and the surrounding area,” Cabrales said.
After a canceled season last year and the hiring of a new head coach, the Wildcats are looking to bounce back and rebuild this following season.
Cabrales is ready and trusts his ability to have an effortless transition into his freshman year at Penn College and his teammate, senior Anthony Narciso, feels confident in Cabrales future success.
“Petey is a very hardworking individual and goes after what he wants. I believe that his work ethic and dedication to what he wants will help him go a long way in college. I am very excited to see what he accomplishes,” Narciso said.
With this year being his last year playing for WHS, Cabrales is devoted to helping the Blue Devils make a championship run before his new start at Penn College.
