On July 8, rising senior Olivia DiGregorio announced her commitment to play college soccer at the University of Scranton via Instagram.

DiGregorio grew up playing a variety of sports, however soccer was the one that stuck with her over all others. She began playing at four years old, but it was not until the beginning of her freshman year when she realized she wanted to continue playing at the collegiate level. “Ever since then I have been working hard to get to this level,” said DiGregorio.

DiGregorio has been a part of the varsity soccer squad since her freshman year with her primary position being on the defensive side. One of her favorite memories was winning the Group 4 state championship during the 2024 season. DiGregorio said, “That feeling will never be forgotten and it will always hold a special place in my heart.”

DiGregorio was also selected to be one of the three captains for the upcoming 2025 season. As well as her defensive skills, the team also looks up to her ability to positively lift up the squad regardless of the situation. Rising senior and tri-captain Ashley Yenawine said, “Liv’s dedication to the team has left a lasting impact on the Westfield girls soccer program as a whole as well as each person she has played with.”

Head coach Alex Schmidt has watched DiGregorio play since her freshman year and has not only witnessed her develop as a player, but as a person too. “Her ability to remain composed under pressure and her calm presence is a true asset to the team,” said Schmidt. “Liv is also one of our most consistent players when it comes to deflecting passes and shots.”

As well as her position in the Westfield girls soccer program, DiGregorio has been with Cedar Stars Monmouth GA, her club team, for two years.

The University of Scranton is a private liberal arts college located in Scranton, PA. They compete at the NCAA Division III level in the Landmark Conference. During the 2024 season, Scranton finished with a 19-2-2 record, notably winning the Landmark Conference championship.

Not only did the beautiful campus attract DiGregorio, the team’s welcoming attitude and the coach’s true interest is what made her feel at home. DiGregorio said, “I loved how they felt like my best friends already even though I had just met them.”

DiGregorio’s mother has been a key mentor throughout her recruiting process. “Without all of her help and advice, I wouldn’t have been able to succeed the way I have,” said DiGregorio.

As for high school, DiGregorio aims to lead the team to a second state title later this year, while also setting her sights on pushing Scranton to another Landmark Conference championship.
