On July 15, rising senior Maeve Wojcik announced her commitment via Instagram to Tufts University for lacrosse.
Tufts University is located in Medford, MA, right outside of Boston. It is a relatively small school with around 6,000 undergraduate students, competing at the Division III level in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
“I committed to Tufts because I felt like it was the perfect balance of being an incredible academic university, but also had some of the top sports teams to compete on,” said Wojcik. “When I went to visit, the coaches and older girls on the team were very welcoming and made Tufts lacrosse feel so amazing. They shared things about the school that you wouldn’t find from just looking up, so I think that was really helpful, especially coming from someone who is an athlete on the team.”
Wojcik has made a tremendous impact on the girls lacrosse team as a defender since her freshman year. This upcoming spring, she will be entering her senior season as a co-captain.
Co-captain and rising senior Gillian Cohen said, “Since freshman year, she has always encouraged others and helped them when they were down. She always goes out of her way to connect with the underclassmen and make them feel welcome.”
Wojcik has found ways to lead and improve the team’s defense by leaps and bounds. This year, they introduced a new form of defense where she had to play the role of the backer, a new position for her. She knew that her new responsibility made her fellow defenders rely on her more than ever.
Wojcik said, “To try and make our play better, I watched film of college teams playing this defense so that I could make ours as successful as theirs. Although there were some games where our opponents could find cracks in our defense, we always regrouped and came up with solutions on how to be better on the next play.”
In 2025, not only did her team capture both the Sectional and State Championships, but she also reached a personal milestone of 100 career forced turnovers as a junior. That same year, she was named Allstate Athlete of the Week and earned All-State, All-Conference, All-County and All-Group honors in her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. She led the entire state in forced turnovers as a junior, ranked tenth in ground balls and was one of just 40 players named to the New Jersey Player of the Year watchlist.
Wojcik’s competitive personality on the field will not go unnoticed by Tufts’ gritty gameplay. This past season, Tufts’ Women’s Lacrosse won the NESCAC Championship and made it to the finals in the NCAA National Championship, losing by one goal to the No. 1 team.
Wojcik has complete and utter faith that her team, guided by her leadership, can obtain another state championship title for the 2026 season. “All the hard work each of us put into the off-season is 100 percent going to pay off. We’re playing all year round with no breaks, aiming to start where we ended off last season,” Wojcik said. “There’s nothing more fun than winning with your best friends, which inspires me to help lead a team capable of doing so.”
