Westfield senior defenseman, Jack Paris, announced his commitment to Muhlenberg College on August 23rd, adding his name to the list of many collegiate athletes to come from Westfield’s well-renowned lacrosse program.
Paris will be entering his second year with the varsity team this upcoming spring, and he is a major asset to the team’s defensive core. He contributed to the success of the Blue Devils throughout his junior year. Paris has played on his club team, Blue Star Lacrosse, for years, which is one of the main ways he was able to get recruited.
In their 2022-23 season, the Blue Devils had an overall record of 12-7, falling just short of both Union County Tournament and North 2, Group 4 titles.
Muhlenberg, founded in 1848, is a private liberal arts college in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The Mules compete at the Division III level in the Centennial Conference which consists of schools like Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson, and Gettysburg. Muhlenberg finished their 2022-23 season with a record of 11-6.
Paris chose Muhlenberg “because of how much [he] loved the coaches and their competitive lacrosse team.” With an undergraduate population of about 2,000 students, Muhlenberg is on the smaller side. This aspect attracted Paris, saying he “likes the concept of a smaller school.”
The future certainly looks bright for Paris. “I think he’s just gonna have a great year this year, lay down some big hits and collect some bodies,” said his teammate, Phil Spirn. He went on to compliment Paris on his character, saying “he’s a great teammate, always talking, especially to the younger guys.”
Paris had interest from Catholic University, Colby College and Babson College, but he ultimately selected to spend his next four years in Allentown.
For his senior season, Paris’ “main goal is to win a state championship,” and he is looking forward to “having fun and creating a new bond with his future teammates” by the time his freshman year rolls around.
But before he ships off for Muhlenberg, Paris and the rest of the boys lacrosse program remain hungry for a state championship win after getting a taste of victory last year.
