Emma Blake, a versatile defender for the girls lacrosse team, announced her commitment to Denison University via Instagram on Feb. 22.

A member of the varsity field hockey and lacrosse team since her freshman year, Blake quickly made a name for herself. Her impressive athleticism and dependability made her an undoubtable threat on the field and a weapon for Westfield. She is also a member of the well-respected Building Blocks Lacrosse program, the club where she received most of her attention from colleges.

Blake will be joining the Denison lacrosse team in the fall of 2025. This past season they went 16-12 overall and 5-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Denison is located in Granville, OH and has a Division III lacrosse program. Denison will add a wall to their defense with Blake that will boost their already successful program.

Varsity lacrosse coach Kathryn DaSilva, who also coached Blake in field hockey said, “Emma Blake by definition is a coach’s award player. Since her freshman year she has been a player that I seek out and she has great coachability. She’s a good team player and a good communicator, but more important she is willing to play anywhere. The girls love to be around her.”

What really put Denison over the top for Blake was, “the combination of great academics, athletics and the people” she said. Denison University is ranked 39 in Liberal Arts Universities nationwide according to usnews.com and has an acceptance rate of just 22 percent. It is a very prestigious university and the perfect place for Blake to pursue her desired major of economics.

“Emma Blake is such a great teammate who always has your back both on and off the field. She is a great defender, always communicating and rooting on her teammates” said senior lacrosse player Adrian Fleming.

Ultimately, the mixture of all these factors is what makes Denison the perfect fit for Blake. She has worked hard to achieve this goal: “I have played lacrosse my whole life and have always dreamed of playing in college,” she said.

Blake still has two seasons left with the Blue Devils before she heads to Denison. She will look to reignite the winning culture and help lead the team to a successful season.
