Westfield pulled away early against Princeton, scoring five goals in just the first quarter. Even with the lack of competition, the Blue Devils continued to play strong and give their all in preparation of getting mentally and physically ready for their upcoming state games.

The girls lacrosse team has dominated the competition this year. With a record of 13-5, they have played tough every game and supported each other through every trial and tribulation. This game, with their large lead, many girls were able to make an impact and contribute to the winning score.

Head coach Katie Dasilva said, “By having a lot of different people score shows how important our depth is because in the state games, the teams are going to be a bit tougher and they’re probably gonna take some of our players out. So having other people on the team step up gives us a bigger advantage.”

By getting three goals in the first five minutes of the game, Westfield set the tone for a dominant game. The Blue Devils had a great offensive day by passing the ball strategically to get girls open to score.

Senior Gillian Cohen, junior Kate Paris and sophomore Kate Cymbor all had an exceptional game, with three goals each. Paris said, “We had so many different goal scorers and no one was just being selfish. We were also able to work as a team, which is the most important thing that you need to have for an offense.”

On top of their usual scorers, many of the team was able to get into the game and performed very well. Both junior Grace Simms and sophomore Nicole Dimattina were on the board with one goal.

But the offense was not the only thing that brought the Blue Devils to a victory. The Westfield defense was able to hold Princeton to only two goals, with none scored in the first half. The Blue Devils had many stops and allowed the offense to thrive.

Senior Emily Kennedy said, “I think that the energy that is brought from getting a forced turnover or a ground ball off of a good possession from the other team definitely helps to motivate the offense to score a goal.”

The energy throughout the entire game was clearly present, there was support for everyone on and off the field.

The Blue Devils will look to play again away against Montgomery this Friday at four pm.
