Senior co-captain Zac Wragg, a defensive end and tight end for the football team, announced his commitment to Amherst College on Oct. 28 via Instagram.
Located in Massachusetts, Amherst is a prestigious academic institute with an undergraduate class of 1,900 students. Wragg will join Amherst’s Division III football program which is widely considered to be one of the best teams.
Wragg said, “Amherst is a fantastic school being one of the best liberal arts schools in the country. They also have a long history of a very competitive football team. Amherst has a very tight knit family aspect to their team which is something that was a really big factor in my decision to commit there.”
Amherst head coach EJ Mills has been coaching there for over 30 years. This was also the reason for Wragg to commit there because of the loyalty that coach Mills has shown to the program.
Wragg has been a starter since junior year and has recorded over 15 sacks during his career as a Blue Devil. During his senior season he was given the honor of being named a co-captain for the 2024-25 season. Wragg Said, “It is a great honor to be a captain of a team with such a rich history, having 127 years worth of teams. Being voted on by my fellow teammates to be the leader of such a fantastic program is something I am extremely grateful for and will never forget.”
Teammate and senior defensive-end Lincoln Meyers said, “On and off the field Wragg is always a leader. Whether it’s off-season workouts or in games, he always takes charge and makes everyone around him better.”
Wragg’s defensive efforts have not gone unnoticed. Lincoln Meyers said, “His performance on the field has really helped force opposing offenses to run between the tackles and to force the Quarterback to make an irrational decision due to Wragg’s pressure off the edge, which helps out our defensive backs significantly.”
It’s not just Wragg’s dedication to the game that keeps him playing, it’s his competitive spirit. Wragg said, “I am a massive competitor. I love taking the entire week to prepare for the game both physically and mentally, and then go out on the weekend and win. Football is great because of how challenging it is for the mind and body. It takes immense effort to be victorious and that’s what makes winning in football so much sweeter.”
Wragg is looking forward to finishing his senior season in hopes to have a deep run in the postseason.
