The chilly weather at Westfield’s Tamaques Park didn’t stop the Blue Devils from fighting hard against their Raider rivals.

Senior captain Emerson Stoller and sophomore Natalie Debowski were dominant in their doubles match as they won in straight sets.

Senior Madison Wright and sophomore Bianca Vesuna also had great performances as they also won their doubles match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Wright was fierce on the serve as she won many points on strong volleys.

Junior Emily Shabinaw crushed her singles match, also winning in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Shabinaw played each set nicely and crushed her opponent.

Senior captain Annika Vesuna got off to a good start with a 6-4 win in her first set. Despite Vesuna facing some fatigue due to the high intensity of the second set, she secured a 6-2 second-set win to clinch the match.

Vesuna, who was recently named Allstate Westfield Athlete of the Week, was a relentless fighter throughout her matches as her agility and powerful volleys gave her the upper hand over her opponent.

To top it off for the Blue Devils, sophomore Savannah Cohen won, 6-4, 6-2, with a thrilling second set.

With Cohen’s win as the dagger, the Blue Devils crushed the Raiders mercilessly, 5-0.

When asked about her teammates’ strong performance, senior Sophia Xing said, “We have been preparing for this match for so long and we knew we had to come out strong and secure these victories. My teammates were constantly battling out there and had a ton of energy so they all played amazing.”

The girls are now 9-3 and are looking to move to double-digits in the win category with a match against Cranford on Monday.
