Senior Daniel Cortese committed to Davidson for cross-country and track & field on Friday afternoon.

Cortese, one of four senior captains,  is currently in the midst of his senior cross-country season and will compete for the Meet of Champions title this Saturday. So far this season, he has run an impressive 16:23 in the 5k at Holmdel Park. And last spring, he ran an outstanding 4:24 in the mile.

Cortese made the decision to take his talents to Davidson because of the overall positive atmosphere Davison has to offer. “It just felt like a family. I immediately connected with the team,” said Cortese.

Cortese credits the Westfield program for putting him in a position to succeed. “We have a great program here,” said Cortese. “The tradition of success and winning is something I will take with me to Davidson.”

When talking about what he’ll miss most about his high school team, Cortese said, “The small moments like getting food with the team after runs.”

He will join Davidson who finished second in indoor track last year and fifth in outdoor track for the Atlantic 10 conference last year.
