Westfield infielder Randy Davis was thrilled to announce his commitment to the University of Rochester this December via Instagram.
Davis was one of Westfield’s key players last year, batting leadoff with a team-high batting average of .354. Though Davis had a high batting average, he also hit for power, collecting 11 extra base hits last season. Davis has been a member of the varsity baseball team since his sophomore year. Some of his achievements include receiving Allstate Athlete of the Week in his junior season.
Outside of baseball, Davis is an avid weightlifter, going to Westfield’s local YMCA nearly every day to improve his strength and mobility. Davis attributes a lot of his athletic success to his rigorous work ethic in the weight room. He is also a great teammate, making sure to be a leader and show younger teammates how to perform on the baseball field and in the classroom.
“Randy is a really hard worker. He’s a great player but he’s an even better person, and I think he has a really bright future ahead of him,” said teammate Grant Como.
The University of Rochester, a member of the NCAA DIII conference and the Liberty League, was 28-14 last season along with a 18-3 record within their conference. The Yellowjackets took home a Liberty League championship in both 2019 and 2021, improving the quality of their baseball program. Rochester is located in Western New York, right off of the coast of Lake Ontario.
“Rochester has a very good baseball program, which is the main reason why I’m attending, and their coaching staff is really great which is also a bonus,” said Davis.
Along with their great baseball program, the University of Rochester is an elite school. With a 39% acceptance rate, Rochester has an impressive engineering school, Davis’ major of choice.
“They have a really great engineering program, which is what I want to study, and the campus is also really beautiful,” said Davis.
Davis will have one more season with the Blue Devils, where he will help lead the team to a county and state championship.
