Senior Maddy Coen was previously committed to The College of New Jersey. On Oct. 14 Coen changed her plans and re-committed to Muhlenberg College via Instagram.

As an attacker and draw specialist for the girls varsity lacrosse team, Coen was originally committed to TCNJ as of June 18. That was until four months later Coen decided TCNJ was not the school for her. “I think I realized that TCNJ was not the right fit for me. I had previously been in conversation with Muhlenberg, and I realized that this school has more benefits for me,” said Coen.

Coen has been playing lacrosse since she was in fifth grade when she lived in Hoboken. Coen played for their recreational team until eighth grade when she joined the club team Dew Lax. By the end of her sophomore year, Coen made the switch to play for the Building Blocks Lacrosse club where they guided her through the commitment process.

Muhlenberg College is a private liberal arts college located in Allentown, PA. Coen said, “Muhlenburg stood out to me because it had more student specific things to offer. They have really strong alumni connections and smaller class sizes that I felt would help me in the future.”

In addition to what the school had to offer, Coen said, “The team at Muhlenberg and the overall community was something that made Muhlenberg stand out to me.” The Muhlenberg College women’s lacrosse team is ranked 32nd under the NCAA Division III program. After a successful 2024 season record of 12-5-0, Coen is eager to join this team and add to their community.

As for her Westfield lacrosse career, Coen began playing on the freshman team during the 2022 season. The following year Coen started out on JV, but she was quickly called up to varsity to finish out the 2023 season. Senior teammate Erin Hazard said, “[Coen] is such a hard worker and she knows how to make every situation positive. I feel I have seen her come out of her shell and I have seen her hard work pay off.”

Going into the 2025 high school season, Coen said, “I am excited, and I feel like this team has a lot of great talent. We have true potential and I hope we make it far this season in states and dominate teams we have struggled against in the past.”
