Brooke Morrison, a crafty forward on the girls soccer team, announced her commitment to Gettysburg College on Oct. 10 via Instagram.
Gettysburg College is located in Gettysburg, PA, and is a private liberal arts institution. Competing in the Centennial Conference, they are one of the most competitive conferences within Division III athletics.
In deciding between a few options, Gettysburg stood out most to Morrison because “the school is absolutely gorgeous and the atmosphere around it is great.” She said, “As soon as I stepped on campus I knew I would be going there. The school is filled with dedicated athletes who are the kind of people I have grown up around my whole life.”
Morrison has been a three year varsity player and goal-scorer for the Blue Devils. Her sophomore year, she played with her sister on the team as a senior, and she has flourished throughout her junior and senior years. She rallied up 13 points last year and has already topped that with 14 points this current season.
Morrison can find the back of the net in a pinch; however, her biggest strength is her unselfish playing style, leading to her current 6 assists. Her sharp footwork allows her to beat opponents one-on-one, and then find a teammate to finish the ball. Morrison’s unselfishness has translated to very successful stats; she led the 2023 team with seven assists, and has the second highest number in the 2024 season at six assists.
Aside from her points, she makes a great role model to underclassmen. Sophomore Georgia Morrelli said, “She is someone I can always talk to, no matter what it’s about. I love having a senior I can trust and look to for advice; with Brooke I can always rely on her.”
Morrelli and Morrison also share the same position on the field, to which she said, “Playing the same position as her really helped me. I look up to her from the amount of experience she has and the success she has on the field.”
Junior Ashley Yenawine, who has been a 3-year teammate to Morrison, said, “On the field, she always gives 110 percent for every ball which is the work ethic you want from a winger. Off the field as a leader, she has been instrumental in guiding this team to our success, and my experience on this team wouldn’t be the same without her.”
Morrison’s hard work and positive personality impacts the soccer team tremendously and will be missed next year by the Blue Devils. As she looks toward her 2025 season with the Bullets, she is extremely excited for her freshman year to meet new teammates and showcase her talent.
