On Jan. 5, senior Max MacEacheron announced his commitment to further his athletic and academic career at Gettysburg College via Instagram.

MacEacheron picked up basketball in fifth grade and immediately developed a true connection to the sport after attending a local camp that summer. From the beginning, the thought was to “always keep playing for as long as possible.” While it wasn’t a dream to play at the collegiate level when he started, that desire to take it to the next level came during his junior year.

MacEacheron has been a key player for the team throughout his years spent on varsity. During the 2024-25 season, MacEacheron made appearances in all 29 games of the season. MacEacheron is already breaking records as he recently scored 40 points against Matawan on Dec. 26, the first to do so since 1963. MacEacheron made nine three-pointers which put him at first all-time in a single game.

MacEacheron’s dedication to basketball is something that has allowed him to progress as a player and become one of the top scorers for the team. Senior teammate Kevin Reynders said, “There’s no question that Max’s best attribute is his shooting, but I think his passing makes him more dangerous. He’s always ready to dish it to one of his teammates which forces other teams to acknowledge off ball movement, allowing him to light it up from outside.”

Head coach James McKeon added, “He’s willing and able to do all that stuff because of the hard work he puts in outside of just our practice. People call him a gym rat, he just loves being in the gym, loves to go and work on his game. There’s not a lot of people like that, so it makes it a little special.”

Apart from his club team coaches, MacEacheron’s parents have been a key component throughout the recruiting process. McKeon has also been able to provide his support as he has watched MacEacheron develop as a Blue Devil over the past few years. “I try to guide him in a team aspect. What can help the team and what he can do to help his game because him being better helps everybody around us be better,” said McKeon.

As one of the captains for the 2025-26 season, MacEacheron has shown consistent leadership and has helped the team grow on and off the court. “Max is one of the most vocal captains I’ve ever played with. He is big on accountability which is crucial in basketball,” Reynders said. “We have a lot of younger guys on the squad this year and Max knows just how to push each and every one of them whether it be with support or criticism, he knows who will respond to what.”

Located in Gettysburg, PA, Gettysburg College is a private, liberal arts school with a student population of just over 2,000 students. The Bullets play at the NCAA Division III level in the Centennial Conference. The team finished with a 21-8 record last season falling short to Johns Hopkins in the conference semifinal.

The team camaraderie was something that attracted MacEacheron to Gettysburg. “I knew some of the players there, and when I met the coach, I really liked him. I went to one of the practices and I saw how they were a team and I really liked that,” MacEacheron said.

While his final high school basketball season is underway, MacEacheron is eager to continue breaking records as well as set his sights on playing college basketball for the Bullets later this year.
