Sofia Della Rocco, a two-way midfielder for the girls lacrosse team who is dominant on both the defensive and offensive ends of the field, announced her commitment to the University of Florida via Instagram on Sept. 18.
Della Rocco has been a member of the varsity team since 2020, her freshman year. During her sophomore season, Della Rocco had the second most goals on the team with 30. Della Rocco also plays for the nation’s 15th-ranked club lacrosse team, 2024 Black DEWLAX.
After her sophomore season, Della Rocco was named second team All-Union County Conference and second team All-Conference.
Della Rocco will be joining the Gators, who have been nothing short of successful. Last season, they finished with a record of 17-5 and made it to the NCAA quarterfinals, where they lost to Maryland, who was ranked second in the country. University of Florida women’s lacrosse is a member of the American Athletic Conference and located in Gainesville, FL.
University of Florida was the only school that Della Rocco visited after she began receiving calls on Sept. 1. She instantly knew that Florida was the perfect place for her after seeing the school and never considered any other colleges.
Della Rocco ultimately chose Florida because of “its amazing facilities, amazing academics, and lastly an amazing culture.”
Only being a junior, Della Rocco has two more seasons left to play for the Blue Devils before officially becoming a Gator.
