On Sept. 30, Junior Harrison Rekemeier announced his commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Hobart and William Smith Colleges via Instagram.
Rekemeier burst onto the scene for Westfield as a sophomore this past year, totalling 10 goals and 8 assists in the year. Rekemeier brings a bit of everything to the table for the Blue Devils. Head coach William Wertheimer said, “He’s a quality player. He’s got great size, great stick skills, and brings a lot to the field.”
Rekemeier’s recruiting process was rather simple, as Hobart was his first and only offer, and he gladly accepted. “Hobart was the only school that reached out to me and I think it worked out better that way,” Rekemeier said. “I was really able to see how good Hobart was because all of my attention was so focused on it.”
Coming off a 5-9 season and competing in the Atlantic 10 conference, Hobart College is located in Geneva, NY.
Rekemeier wouldn’t have had this opportunity if it weren’t for the constant support and influence from parents, coaches and peers. Former WHS and Hobart Lacrosse player Chris Aslanian was a huge help in Rekemeier’s recruiting process. “I had a conversation with [Chris] before I went on my visit talking about the school. He went to Hobart and gave me a really good idea of what I should expect about the school,” Rekemeier said.
Following an 18-6 season that included a Union County championship, a Sectional Championship and a Group 4 State Championship, Rekemeier and the Blue Devils look to repeat success and build off of last season. “With my junior year, I am looking to bring another ring to the program. I think as a player I can fill some offensive gaps and be an all-around threat on the field,” he said.
A big jump for Rekemeier is imminent in another state title run. Rekemeier said, “We are a very good team, and I can speak for everyone when saying we are very excited for the season to start.”
