Senior Tate Esler announced his commitment to Skidmore College for golf on Tuesday via Instagram.

Esler played a big role in leading his team toward a division championship with a 7-1 record in the 2021-22 season and a second-place finish in the conference.

Along with his commitment to Skidmore College, Esler was invited to participate in the New Jersey PGA Junior Tour. He finished top 20 in each of his three tournaments in the 2022 season, his best finish being 11th in the NJPGA Junior Open.

Esler joins fellow Georgetown commit Barnes Blake as the second boys golfer to recently commit to collegiate-level golf.

Skidmore College is a Division III university in the Liberty League. The school holds the honors of 87 conference championships, 226 NCAA D-III All-Americans, and 10 national championships. Skidmore has played in three tournaments this season and has finished top 10 in all of them. The Thoroughbreds look to new editions to the team such as Esler to add to an already accomplished history.

Esler was unsure of what was to come for him with golf at the collegiate level but feels he found the right place to spend the next four years. “Skidmore’s a great school with great academics. I feel comfortable and love the coaches and Skidmore was the best for me. It feels weird to be committed but I really developed a love towards golf,” said Esler.

Esler is looking to finish his high school career strong in the upcoming spring season and hopes to help his team to yet another strong showing in the county and state championships.
