A sea of white invaded the field as Westfield was ready for a fierce matchup against the Columbia Cougars.

Senior captain Ella McLane jumped right into action with a quick goal to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead.

Building on the early momentum the girls established from early on, junior Katie Walsh and freshman Riley Carr both had goals of their own.

After another goal from McLane, the Blue Devils closed out the first quarter with a 4-0 lead.

The second quarter wasn’t any different. Constant pressure from the ferocious Blue Devil offense led to a Lucy Mineo goal which put the Blue Devils up 5-0 at halftime.

With Westfield’s defense acting as spectators, their offense continued their aggression in the 3rd quarter.

Sophomore Emma Blake and senior Julia Schneider added to lead, extending the scoring margin to 7-0. Also, McLane did not let off the brakes as she put in yet another beautiful goal late in the quarter giving her a hat trick.

The Cougars goalie, Blair Rodriquez, felt the Blue Devil heat as constant shots were being put on net. Despite the hopeful Cougars looking to somehow light a spark in the game, Westfield continued to hammer them down without any remorse.

Early in the 4th quarter, Schneider scored her second goal of the game with an assist from sophomore Abi Mokrzycki keeping the Blue Devils in front 9-0.

McLane put on a show for the Westfield crowd at Gary Kehler Stadium as she scored again in the 4th with 9:49 left. Freshman Emma Schwarzenbek finished off the game with one final goal to give Westfield the 11-0 win.

When asked about her offensive mindset that allowed her to be so successful on the field, McLane said, “I think that the sideline and the energy on the field and knowing that even if I messed up my teammates would be there for me made me successful. Our teamwork is what makes us very successful as a team.”

Westfield hopes to continue their four game win streak against Livingston on Saturday.
