As junior Benjamin Macry rolled his second turkey of the match, the Blue Devils erupted in celebration, leading them to continue their current winning streak.
Early in the first game, Westfield had several factors that propelled their win. Senior co-captain Roux Swaminathan started the team off strong with a spare, leading to senior Will Singer then rolling his first turkey of the match. After a long fight, the Blue Devils won the first game by 206.
Coming off an exciting win against Roselle Park on Monday, the Blue Devils looked to bring that same energy back. Heading into the match, Singer focused on a strategy of composure and teamwork. “I felt confident. I trust my teammates and I trust myself. I think when we just play slow and take our time, we are a great team,” he said.
Senior Thomas Stavrovich agreed, “Keeping my mentality high, just having fun, supporting everybody helps a lot, and just keeping energized.”
The team also emphasizes key technical strategies, “Just adjusting to the oil and playing frame by frame,” Singer said.
Heading into the second game, Macry had a spare and a turkey, which contributed to the team’s 56-point lead after 6 frames. They then won the second game by 184, now taking 2 games from Rahway.
Each player’s individual successes helped play a role in securing the team’s victory. Assistant coach Danny Pereira emphasized the importance of teamwork and discipline, “Working together, being consistent, making shots and I think overall we’re working well as a team.”
Looking ahead, the Blue Devils hope to use their practice time and confidence to continue their winning streak. Singer said, “We have to pick up our spares, get our energy high and we’ll win the next game.”
Pereira agreed, “We felt good. Coming off two victories, winning yesterday and then winning today, is really important because we have a tough match on Thursday against Linden.”
Westfield will play Linden on Dec. 17 at 4 p.m., looking to take home another victory.
