In the top of the first inning the Blue Devils easily managed to get all nine batters in the box, scoring four runs. Pitching and fielding from Ferris contributed to this success, walking two batters and committing numerous errors. Head coach Jay Cook echoed the importance of timely at bats, saying “we struggled with the bats today a little bit.”

With a total of 23 at bats for Westfield, the team tallied five hits, two coming from senior Charlie McCormack.

Despite being up 4-1 after the first inning, the Blue Devils stayed focused, ending with six runs compared to Ferris’s single run. Senior tri-captain Aaron Ives helped the Blue Devils, scoring one run and adding an RBI. Ives said, “We bounced off of the pitching. [Logan Revock] pitched really well. So, we really wanted to focus more on just team baseball, whatever it takes just to get on base and help the next guy.” The offense did just that, recording four RBIs.

Junior Logan Revock pitched a full seven innings, keeping Westfield in the game and leading the defense. Revock allowed only 1 run and had 1 error on top of striking out 11 batters. He said, “We just came in like any other game, trying to play our best. We got in and out of innings quickly, and we worked our at bats pretty well, getting some good hits.”

Cook said, “Revock pitched great, he did exactly what we expected him to do.
He came in, he threw strikes, he mixed up the pitches, he held runners close and kept the batters off balance.”

McCormack complimented Revock and said, “I really think Revock pitched very well, he stayed focused, really brought us all together, and we followed the game plan and really stuck with it.”

Looking ahead, the Blue Devils will face the No. 2 seed, Woodbridge, in the North 2, Group 4 sectional semifinals. Cook said, “I think just timely at bats, making sure that we get that big hit. We had four runs there, but, if we get one more hit, it’s six runs, and then, it becomes a real uphill battle for the other team.” The Blue Devils look to get past this round in order to reach the sectional final for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
