Paige Gorczyca, a 5’10” power forward and guard for the girls basketball team, is a dominant player on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. She announced her commitment to Stevens Institute of Technology via Instagram on Monday.
Gorczyca has been a starter for the girls basketball team since her freshman year. Last year, Gorczyca averaged 10 points and about six rebounds per game. Gorczyca also plays for the New Jersey Panthers for AAU where she attracted most of her college attention.
After her junior year, Gorczyca received All-Union County second team, All-Watchung Conference, and All-Area Honorable Mention.
Gorczyca will be joining the Ducks who are accustomed to winning. Stevens competes in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom, is located in Hoboken, NJ, and finished last season with a 19-7 record. Stevens’ team also prides itself on academics as it has the second-best GPA in all of DIII women’s basketball.
Gorczyca also was not considering any other schools to continue her athletic career in college. She said “it was either Stevens or not playing basketball in college,” because she did not love other schools’ locations and level of academics.
“I chose Stevens for their great education and athletic program. Stevens graduates statistically have a very good possibility of earning a high-paying salary right after graduation. Therefore, I get the best of both worlds, playing my favorite sport in college, and getting the opportunity for a job after graduation,” said Gorczyca. “I felt like I fit perfectly into their culture and team and I also love the city of Hoboken.”
Gorczyca is looking forward to entering her senior season with a goal of winning and building the basketball program. Gorczyca is coming off a state championship and aims to lead her team to another run in the tournament.
