On Nov. 10, senior Alyssa Catalano announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic career at Pennsylvania State University Abington via Instagram.
Catalano began her softball journey at the age of three, alongside her father. Her dad has been a mentor to her, pushing her to be her best self. He coached all of her teams up until high school, and she is forever grateful for that. She stated, “There is no favoritism; if anything, he makes me work twice as hard”.
Penn State Abington is a public university located in Abington, Pennsylvania. The school offers the same student resources as Penn State, but on a smaller campus with roughly 3,500 students.
Catalano is extremely excited to be joining the Nittany Lions next year. Catalano visited the team a couple of weeks ago and had a great time. She expressed, “The moment I stepped on campus, I instantly knew this is where I belong.”
The Penn State Abington Nittany Lions compete in the United East Conference at the NCAA Division III level. The team had a solid season last year, holding a record of 15-24, but they have lots of room for improvement this upcoming season.
Junior varsity head coach Zachary Worswick had a lot of positive comments on Catalano’s journey. He stated, “Catalano is the definition of a team player, wherever we need her, she steps up in key moments”.
Catalano has a lot to look forward to and a bright career ahead of her. She stated, “I am looking forward to being challenged, working hard, playing in a competitive environment, as well as making lifelong friends at the same time.”
With one season left before she advances into her college career, Catalano wants to make every moment count and work towards a State Championship.
