On August 27, Westfield High School senior Alice Manzo announced her commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Penn State University via Instagram. The midfielder, who had originally committed to Lehigh, made the switch this fall after gaining exposure on the U18 USA lacrosse team.

Manzo has been one of Westfield’s top players since her freshman year. Her speed, toughness and ability to play on both ends of the field have helped earn her All-Conference honors numerous times. Head coach Kathryn DaSilva said Penn State is getting the complete package: “Alice is equally good on defense as she is on attack; she’s also part of her draw control unit and excellent on the circle.”

Her recruiting journey started early. Manzo has been playing for Steps Elite 2026 Blue for six years. She remembers going to camps, tournaments and clinics, waiting to hear from schools  and eventually choosing Lehigh during her junior year.

“Penn State was the right fit for me at this point in my life,” Manzo said. “ After learning and growing this past year as both a player and a person, I could see myself there.”

Penn State competes in the Big Ten Conference and finished last season with a 12-7 record, advancing to the NCAA tournament. The size of the school, the competitiveness of the program and the chance to play under head coach Missy Doherty all played a part in her decision.

For Manzo, the excitement of what’s next is hard to describe. “I think about it all the time and I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for anything in my life,” she said.

As a captain for the 2025-2026 season, coach DaSilva knows Manzo’s leadership will continue to shape Westfield even as her focus shifts towards college. “She made a statement as a freshman and in her sophomore year. I can only imagine what her senior year has to store,” DaSilva said.

Manzo was grateful for the support that had helped her reach this point, especially from her parents and longtime coaches. She hopes to finish her High School career strong before stepping onto the field as a Nittany Lion in State College next fall. “ I’m really excited to bring energy and positivity to the team,” she said.
